Updating Watchmon CORE from very old firmware

Just as the title says. I have a Watchmon CORE that i want to put back into service that has been shelved for a couple of years, and I am having issues updating the firmware through the tool kit. The current firmware version is 14.3.23.

When I do a firmware update through the tool kit, it brings up the ESP32 Firmware Updater screen, verifies that the toolkit is not running, I target the correct image, select the correct COM port, and press upgrade. Then, it brings up a seperate screen that says it is “connecting”, does that for about 10 seconds, then times out and fails to update.

I’ve also tried to do a sync via USB, then getting an error saying that that time sync has not been enabled or configured, even though it has been.

I just need to know if there is a better way of doing this, or if i should just shelf this thing for good.
