OI! I service a few different bms systems (1, 4, and core w/k9) which all use different releases of toolkit. so I would reeeelly like to figure out a way to have them all on one laptop, and I’m very far from a computer genius so I am hoping somebody knows how to do this. thanks!
The easiest way is run virtual machines for each unit. look into oracle virtual box. you can run multiple versions of the same operating system and even different systems. I have programming software that doesn’t play well with each other and I run them in virtual mode where they are all running at the same time but in virtual mode that makes them think and function as multiple different computers. I also have 3 different versions of windows for older software that’s not available for windows 10/11and Linux in 3 different flavors to see which 1 i like. You Just need a Install ISO version of windows you want to use and download the software for free from oracle. there are tons of YouTube videos to show you how this works. You will need a big hard drive 1Tb or more to store all the programs and max out the memory, 16 gig is great on the laptop.
The other way is multiple boot on your laptop, but only 1 version can run at the same time.
Hi, I always copy the old Batrium folder under Program Files before upgrading the software. You can then start the toolkit version in that older folder. Works for the latest 4 versions I’ve been running. Eventually you can get in trouble once a shared DLL is being updated that is not compatible with older versions.
ok, thanks guys im going to give it a shot, if I can get them running one at a time that will work, as they are all at different locations.
Hi all,
I can confirm that we use both of these methods in-house.
- I run Linux on my dev machine, and so run ToolKit2 in a VM, forwarding the USB device, and handing over a spare network card over PCIe to the VM to talk to WatchMons over WiFi
- Copying folders is the easiest way to run multiple versions, and we have been doing this for years.
Eventually we will have config on the mobile app to give you a backup too
